Bixi!

After the marathon I still had some things I wanted to see/photograph, so I rented a Bixi "bike share" bike for an hour and a half. Riding a bike uses a totally different muscle set than running and walking, so it was actually fine aprés marathon!

Off to run!

We'll see how far I get.

Tomorrow is Marathon Sunday!

Like all marathons, I can't wait until it's over. At least this is my second time here, so I know what to expect on the course.

Marché Jean-Talon

In Montreal's Little Italy. Maybe the biggest produce market we've ever seen.

Montreal Metro

Devin on a brand new metro car... No doors between cars, just one loong car!!

Pick up your dog poop!

Bus shelter in Montreal.

...and Quebec

Back in Quebec, with no line at the border. Very easy crossing. Montreal rush hour traffic would prove to be something different.

New York

We were in New York for about five minutes, between Vermont and Quebec.

Vermont Farm

In Alburg, on the way to Montreal!

Burlington

Neat hummingbird mural by 24-year old artist Mary Lacy in downtown.

Church Street Marketplace

Really nice shopping district in downtown Burlington. Not too busy today because it was raining, but easy to imagine it hopping on a nice day.

Flynn Theater

On Main Street in Burlington. Devin was disappointed to miss Ben Folds...we were one day too early!

Beansies

Lunch at the Beansies bus...burgers and fries. Beansies has been parked here in the same spot since 1944. Obviously the bus itself has changed over the years. We lucked out, today was the last day of the season before the bus goes into hibernation.

University of Vermont

Beautiful campus, but we just drove through!

Moran Plant

The brick building on Lake Champlain is Burlington's old power generating plant, mostly coal-fired. It was decommissioned in the 1980s, but the structure is historic so there are plans to repurpose it for other uses. This view of the lake from Battery Park where we ate lunch.

World's Tallest Filing Cabinet

Since it was pouring rain when we arrived in Burlington, what else to do but to drive out to this unusual monument?!

Lake Champlain

Lunch at Battery Park in Burlington, overlooking Lake Champlain. We had burgers from the Beansies food truck, a converted school bus in business since 1944!

Warren Falls

Beautiful waterfall spot on the Mad River south of Stowe. Unfortunately, Devin's shoes had just barely dried from a round of disc golf on a wet course, when he went both feet in to the Mad River while crossing here.

Dog River

We visited four covered bridges over the Dog River near Northfield, Vermont.

Lamoille Valley Rail Trail

This afternoon we did the 35 mile round trip Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. An old railroad track bed converted to a recreation trail. So fun and beautiful!

What's Vermont without...Covered Bridges?! IV

Cambridge Junction Bridge, over the Lamoille River near Jeffersonville.

What's Vermont without...Covered Bridges?! III

Gold Brook Bridge near Stowe.

What's Vermont without...Covered Bridges?! II

Red Bridge over Sterling Brook, outside Stowe.

Grist Mill Bridge, outside Jeffersonville.

Vermont Statehouse

Fall Color!

One tree at a time. A few trees have turned, but they've had a dry year here in Vermont, so that could reduce the color show. If they don't get enough water, the leaves just turn brown and fall off. Hopefully we'll get more color towards the end of the week.

Von Trapp Family Lodge

The singing Von Trapps of Austria moved to Stowe in 1938. In 1982 they opened this big lodge with a hotel, villas, and all sorts of activities.

New friends

I made a few friends on a honest to goodness Vermont farm.

Montpelier

We did a quick tour of beautiful Montpelier today, a city of 6,000 and the state Capitol since 1805.

Waterbury Train Station

Historic train station still used for Amtrak, but also as a cafe and visitor center for Green Mountain Coffee. We stopped and browsed for a bit, but already had our coffee.
